Find Something That Keeps You Moving
Most of us spend our days sitting in front of a computer. That is one of the most unhealthy things you can do for your body. You do not need to love running or lifting weights. But you do need something that gets you moving. Walking, dancing, swimming, hiking, Zumba, deep cleaning the apartment. Anything that keeps your body in motion.
You cannot enjoy the benefits of the work you are putting in now if you do not also take care of yourself.
You do not have to love working out. But you do need something that gets you moving.
Research from Stanford shows that humans experience two major aging spikes. One in the mid forties and another in the early sixties. These are periods where your body changes quickly. They are the adult version of growth spurts, except instead of shooting up in height, you start to feel things breaking down.
If you looked after yourself in your twenties and thirties, you are far more likely to move through those phases in better shape. And take it from someone in their mid to late forties. You can see people going two very different ways. The ones who stayed active have it together. The ones who did not, do not.
Your friend group matters too. If you spend time with people who move, you are more likely to move. If you spend time with people who sit still, you will sit still.
This is not a health and wellness blog. But every person needs something that keeps them moving. Most modern jobs keep us glued to a screen for hours at a time. That is about as unhealthy as smoking. Movement is not optional. It is the price of admission for a body that can carry you through the next decade.
Next Step
Choose one activity that gets you moving and schedule it into your week. Pick something you enjoy. Commit to it. Your future self will thank you for it.
